As my readers know, I write lyrics these days and at least one set, which is possessed of complex esoteric lyrics in an ethereal post-punk style, is scheduled to be transformed into an EP by South Africa's best rock 'n roll band, Cortina Whiplash. Here are two totally different love songs I penned, one for a pink-haired woman I just met, and unsuccessfully wooed, rendered as blues, and the other for a lovely lesbian friend I've known for years, rendered as rock 'n roll. Enjoy!
HER CROWN A STARFISH

The sky is bleeding
Rain gouts down
Soaking her fuchsia tresses
Her crown a starfish
Her eyes a shade of yesterday
She flickers out of sight
Grainy black and white
Television at one ay-em
Strings of party lights stutter
A blue bulb dies
Her A-line frock swirls past
Just out of vision
She’s made her decision
The sky is bleeding
Rain gouts down
Soaking her fuchsia tresses
Her crown a starfish
Her eyes a shade of yesterday
She flickers out of sight
Grainy black and white
Television at one ay-em
Strings of party lights stutter
A blue bulb dies
Her A-line frock swirls past
Just out of vision
She’s made her decision
Her crown a starfish
Her eyes a shade of yesterday

She’s got freckles
She’s got curves
She’s got everythin’ that I lurve
She was walking down the promenade
With a whisp of candyfloss like pomade
Brown hair, hipsway, a kind of secret smile
Insouciance you could spot for a mile
Her bag knocked against her knees
A seagull gawked and she just teased
She has great eyes
She can pout
She’s what it’s all about
Old salts stopped puffing their cobs
The fairground wheel ground to a halt
Her legs were long and brown
Her hair a wind-tousled mess
Her cotton dress all summery
And all of us felt blessed
She’s got freckles
She’s got curves
She’s got everythin’ that I lurve
She has great eyes
She can pout
She’s what it’s all about
She’s got freckles
She’s got curves
She’s got everythin’ that I lurve
